Remember

Make sure that your website/webpage navigation is clear and that there is a logical sequence to the pages on your website.
There are different navigation schemes available; each with its own advantages and problems (top and bottom, left and right, drop down menus, hover menus, buttons, mouseovers).

Consider some examples

Jennifer Reynolds, Effective Internet Searching uses a set of links down the left side of each page.
Margarita Hodge, Celebrando lo nuestro: La Hispanidad en Los Estados Unidos uses a set of links for navigation at the bottom of each page throughout her website.
Elizabeth Lanthier, Psychology Research Methods has a row of shaded buttons along the top of her pages.
Diane Thompson's Troy site uses leftside navigation in a table box.
Nazanin Saidi uses a nice, sort of unique leftside navigation structure at Processes and Choices in Making a Simple Massing Model.
A good explanation of a "breadcrumbs" navigation usage is at Creating and Using Breadcrumbs.
The Technical Applications Center homepage uses a nice mouse-over effect for its navigation, again leftside.
My course pages, for example in HIS 101, use a top navbar with a javascript, drop-down menu effect.
