This is the reconstructed gas chamber at Auschwitz I. The gas chambers were built to resemble shower installations, and the people were told that they were going to take showers and then were packed in there--The children were often thrown on top of the mass of people. Zyklon B pellets, which gave off cyanide gas, were then released into the chambers from small hatches above in the ceiling. It was at Auschwitz that it was decided to use Zyklon B as the poison gas agent to kill the millions of people that would pass through the gates of Auschwitz. The first trial run was on Russian prisoners-of-war.
