Everyone who has seen the movie Schindler's List, directed by Stephen Spielberg, knows a little of what Oskar Schindler (1908-1974) accomplished during World War II. Risking his life, and for motives that remain unclear to this day, he protected from execution over a thousand Jews for work at this enamelware factory In Krakow (and he also helped many Jewish children escape Poland). When the Red Army threatened Krakow, he moved "his" Jews to a much safer location in Bohemia, and even tracked down some who had been mistakenly shipped for execution to Auschwitz.
