It is really very amazing to me that the factory still survives today after all of these years and the depredations of both the Germans and the Russians, but it is not receiving a lot of care and is slowly crumbling. Actually, much of Krakow was spared total destruction during the war as a result of a very fast Red Army advance that captured the city largely intact. The Schindler factory, Deutsche Emalienware Fabrik, stands alone and nearly forgotten in the middle of industrial district of Krakow. There is not a lot of concern on the part of any official authorities about its upkeep anymore.
