Submit the Ibn Battuta one-page paper

Directions for the Ibn Battuta Paper:
Citing specific evidence from the Adventures of Ibn Battuta, identify (and briefly explain) some of the most important characteristics of the Muslim world in the fourteenth century.

The paper requires that you gather evidence from a textual source (The Adventures of Ibn Battuta) to reconstruct the past, and that you then interpret that past by analyzing the evidence.  As you read the The Adventures of Ibn Battuta and take notes, you should look for any information that sheds light on the Islamic world, for example, the role of cities.

Your paper must follow the following format:
  • typed using a word processor (font size 10 or 12 only)
  • one-inch margins
  • double-spaced
  • not to exceed one (1) page--I will not read beyond one page.
  • name, date and HIS 111 at the top left
  • must have a brief introduction and conclusion
  • must conform to proper grammatical and spelling rules (See the Guide for the One-Page Paper).  Excessive abuse of the rules of good English and/or sloppiness will result in a lower grade.
  • If you feel that you need help with the mechanical aspects of your essay, e.g., grammar, thesis, paragraphs, please make use of the local campus Writing Center. You may wish to review the examples of common Stylistic and English Usage Mistakes.
  • At times, you may be asked to rewrite your essay before it is graded. This is done for your own benefit and will result in an improved grade.
  • You may also choose to resubmit your paper after making the corrections and taking into consideration the comments noted on the original.  his will result in an additional two (2) points being added to your paper grade.
Before proceeding, you might wish to read the short background information and review the study questions on the Adventures of Ibn Battuta.
