Thoth was an important Egyptian god often connected with two animals, the ibis and the baboon. He was a god of wisdom, writing, hieroglyphs, magic, science, all things intellectual. Thoth also played an important role in the judgment of the dead (with Osiris) in the Hall of the Truth where he functioned "as the scribe who has kept accounts of the life of the soul of the deceased and who records the outcome of the weighing of the heart against the feather of truth."
