Since 1945, there have been many genocides (humanitarian catastrophes) that have occurred in the world, despite the existence of the United Nations and the alleged commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by many countries. The 192 countries that are in the UN are all essentially signatories of the Declaration). It is very distressing that Wikipedia has an entry for Genocides in History and another List of Genocides by Death Toll. Though definitions of genocide may vary, in a few moments of thought, I came up with this list. I know that there are others.

Your paragraph must follow this format.

You should approach this question as a historian looking over the entire course of the Cold War in its entire worldwide scope. You should not focus solely on what has happened in Russia, although that is, of course, of primary importance. Of course, you cannot cover everything about the Cold War (After all, there are historians who have written thousands of pages on the Cold War). You should think "big picture," and you should focus your answer. (This is a difficult question to do in less than a page, but it can be done.)

Please take a moment to review Charlie's History Writing Center for specific information on the writing requirements for the assignments in the course. Please check this short explanation of what it means to cite historical evidence.

Your assignment should be submitted on Canvas.
