Born in Slatington, Dale was the only son of Malcolm Meagher (1903-1994) and Arlene née Smith (1909-2003).

During his four years at Slatington High School, he played football and baseball. At graduation, he was one of four to receive the Dr. H. B. Kern prize for outstanding athletic achievement which was awarded to: Leroy Schleicher, Arthur Howey, Dale Meagher, and Stephen Babyak.

As president of the class of 1943, Dale wrote in the yearbook that his ambition was to “get into the navy.” And that he did.

In July 1943, he enlisted in the navy and was off to Sampson, NY for his initial training. He joined the crew of the USS Straus (DE 408), shortly after its commissioning in April 1944. The ship was a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort built by Brown Shipbuilding of Houston Texas. The ship spent much of its time in the Pacific Ocean as a convoy escort and was involved in several different Pacific actions. Meagher was released form naval service in March 1946.

In August 1949 he enrolled at Lafayette College, graduating in June 1953 with a B.S. degree. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Borg Warner, later known as York International, based in York, PA. The company produced HVAC systems, and Meagher worked there for over thirty years before retiring in 1989.

He married Marilyn Page née Mertz in 1961. At his death in 2008, he was survived by his wife and four children.
