Williams was a longtime sports coach at Slatington High School.

Born in Slatington, the son of Thomas and Hannah Williams, he grew up in the town and attended Slatington High School, graduating in 1925.
After graduating from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1934 (He later earned a master’s degree from New York University in 1946.), Williams was hired by the high school in August 1935 as a physical education teacher. And that year, with Fred Maass, he started the football team at the high school.
Between 1935 and 1972, when he retired, at one time or another he coached football, baseball, basketball and track.
Williams was best known as the coach of the “Iron men” basketball team which won the 1954 district 11 championship. As a basketball coach from 1938 to 1966, his teams compiled a won-loss record of 280-296-2 with two league titles and one district title.
In 1986 he was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame, and then later, in 2012, he was added to the Northern Lehigh High School Ring of Honor.
In July 1937, he married Ruth Stettler (1906-1999). She was also from Slatington and worked as an elementary school teacher in Palmerton for more than 30 years before retiring. Lloyd and Ruth lived on First Street and had one son, Ronald (1942-1997). They were buried in Union cemetery.
