slate roof snow guard (snow bird) circa 1890
These snow guards, popularly known as "snow birds," were installed on slate roofs to prevent ice and snow accumulations from cascading down the slick slates onto pedestrians below. This one is about 10" long, and it was manufactured in Slatington. It is well worn.
