For this digital research project, you have two options, either a topic associated with the General Crisis of the seventeenth century or the Paris Peace Conference after World War I. On the General Crisis page, you will find a list of possible individuals or events to research. For the Paris Peace conference, you will find a list of diplomats who attended the conference--There are many others--and who can be researched. There are also some territorial disputes that can be researched.

For the research project, you will be expected to use:

  • web resources, starting with wiki and Encyclopedia Britannica (Here is information on how to access Britannica.)
  • other available web resources
  • materials that you can find in the online library databases. If you are working on a Paris Peace Conference topic, then you will want to look at the historical newspapers database online. If you ware working on a General Crisis topic, then you will want to be looking for scholarly articles in the databases, for example in Project Muse.
  • For the Paris Peace Conference, you will also be able to find important books, such as those by Robert Lansing or Charles Thompson.

I will put your information into a template.

Examples of this assignment:

This is the information that you need to provide for the template:

  • set of references, including titles of websites and the relevant urls
  • timeline (length and amount of entries on the timeline will depends on the amount of information that you have gathered and the importance of the topic)
  • informative essay explaining details about your chosen topic and assessing its importance and impact (approximately 6-800 words). The key here is your assessment of the importance of the topic.
  • Images (photos, maps) with citations for each

You will be credited on the template for your work.

Your instructor must approve your project type and topic, and this must be done early in the course so that you can proceed with your research. Please check your course schedule to make sure of the exact due date for the assignment.

Please take a moment to review Charlie's History Writing Center for specific information on the writing requirements for the assignments in the course. Please check this short explanation of what it means to cite historical evidence.

You should remain in contact with your instructor while working on this assignment. Since this project will be viewable on the web, you want to put something good out there for people to see and that you can put on your resume. Do not wait until the last minute to work on this. When you have your materials ready, please email your instructor.
