S.H.S. Team Again Lehigh Valley Champions

"Basket Ball fans were running 100 degree temperatures last evening as the boys of S.H.S. were cleverly defeating the strong Stroudsburg High team for the Lehigh Valley Championship in the new Palmer High School building, at Palmerton."

"The fever broke out at 6:30 when the doors opened and about 1500 followers of basket ball, tried to get in the building at the same time. Palmerton's entire police force was powerless in the mad rush."

"The mammoth gym at Palmerton was packed as it never was before, in fact there was a great deal of agony and suffering by the fans from the over-crowded capacity and intense heat."

"The Slatington cheer leader took the floor at 7:45 P.M. and then the big noise started, previous to both teams coming on the floor for their warming up. Stroudsburg High was the first team to come on the floor at 7:40 and the local subs followed a few minutes later. The regulars of the Blue and White were escorted on the floor by their very efficient coach who turned a green basket ball team into one of the fastest fives that might be possible to muster together. Following the team came the officials, Witwer, of Allentown, followed by Bibleheimer, of Easton, two central board officials, selected by the League President and the management of both teams."

"President Scheckler of the Lehigh Valley Inter-Scholastic League, witnessed both Tuesday nights game and this final game which gave the decision of the pennant winners, which Slatington won and are now crowned Lehigh Valley League Champions for second time."

S.H.S. Loses to Summit Hill

Our hopes for a place in the State Championship throne were blasted Saturday evening when the local S.H.S. Valley champion basket ball team lost to Summit Hill High, title holders in the Carbon-Schuykill League, by a score of 17-13 in the semi-finals of the district championships held at Lansford."

"Both teams were generally hampered by a slippery floor, used for a dance the night before."

"A spurt in the third quarter gave the Summit Hill team a four point margin, after they had trailed during the first half, and the anthracite team held this quartet of tallies until the game's end. Weakness from the 15-foot mark lost the boys a victory, they having many opportunities to score foul goals, only to miss."

"Two hundred machines made the trip from Slatington to Lansford, and nearly 1500 people jammed into the cage to witness the battle."

"Summit Hill defeated Doylestown High, champions of the Bux-Mont League, in the Liberty High gym, Bethlehem, last Saturday evening."
